What's the first step to reach to your goals in life?
If you want to start pursuing goals for yourself then this is the first most important step that you have to take.
Hi and welcome to Up It and the Action-Ables podcast. My name’s Paden, I’m a performance life coach and the CEO of Up It.
When it comes to achieving goals no matter how big or small they maybe, the first step you need to take is to get clear about those goals.
Now this may sound obvious but common sense isn’t common practice. You may already know that you need to get clear about your goals, however, the question is have you been practically applying this knowledge? And if you’re finding it difficult to seek clarity then fear not because in this episode, I’m going to walk you through some of the steps you can take to start getting clear about the goals you want to pursue for yourself. So stay tuned!
Before we get into it, let’s briefly talk about why some people miss doing this obvious step. So there are two truth bombs that I’m going to be dropping, ready for it?
First is, you simply haven’t taken the time!
Yes you’ve a job, you may have kids, you have responsibilities and a lot of other things that you have to do. But the truth is you haven’t taken the time to actively search for clarity which may be the reason you haven’t found it.
Second is, you maybe chasing someone else’s goals altogether. Which means you’re not motivated enough to seek clarity because deep down you already know that those aren’t yours.
Now let’s move on to how you can start seeking clarity for your goals.
Now with everything that’s happening, we have so much time at hand, so why not sit down with a pen and paper and ask yourself with better and deeper questions. Here are some prompts to get you started.
First, write down what are the qualities that you value the most in life. Things such as integrity, loyalty, friendship. Some of the things that are absolutely meaningful and important to you write them down.
Second, what do you want to do in your life?
If you didn’t have bills to pay, what is the first thing you’d like to do? Is there something you’d like to create, build? Is there something you’d like to offer to the world? What are some of the things you want to do if money wasn’t a priority?
Third, is ask yourself- is it doable?
In life there are only two kind of things if you really look at it. One are things that we can change and second are things that we can’t. If this goal is something that you can do, you can change, has been done before, then so can you. You can do it as well.
And the fourth is write down some of the things you can do that’ll move you toward your goals on daily basis, weekly and even monthly basis. This will be completely up to you and it depends on your planning skills.
So, there you have it, those are the 4 things that you can do to start getting more clearer about your goals. Very quickly, first think about the values that matter most to you. Second, think about the things you’d like to do without money being a constraint. Third, is ask yourself if it’s doable and fourth is to make a plan to practically move toward your goals.
