Is this lockdown period wearing you down emotionally? Are you struggling to feel motivated to do anything productive? Then this episode is especially meant for you.
Hi and welcome to Action-Ables. If you’re a new listener, my name’s Paden. I’m a performance life coach and the CEO of Up It. If you’re a regular listener, thank you for coming back, I appreciate it immensely.
Going through this pandemic situation is certainly challenging. In this episode, I want to talk to you about how your feelings and emotions influence your motivation levels. So if you’re feeling low about this situation you’re not alone and let’s talk about it!
Amidst everything that’s happening, it’ll take some effort to tune in with your feelings. But you should take the time out to identify your primary thoughts about what’s happening. Especially, if you’re feeling the blues of being unable to go out. Take some time out to identify your thoughts and feelings.
Is it fear, is it anger or frustration. All these feelings are natural and ignoring them is not a great idea and neither will it be helpful. Instead, if you take the time to understand your feelings and then acting accordingly, it’ll help you accept the situation for what it is.
Yes, these are uncertain times and nobody knows what’s going to happen. But isn’t that how life’s always been? Given, these are extraordinary circumstances, just like everything other situation in life, we don’t get to decide what happens, we only get to choose how we respond to the situation.
Recently, I was chatting with a friend who told me about how most of his friends were struggling to be productive. And honestly that’s where I decided to do this episode.
I also want to gently impress upon the idea that this isn’t happening to you alone. It’s not something you as an individual are facing. It isn’t about you. We need to remember that we are all in this situation together. There’s an intense feeling of dissociation and demotivation in the air. And unless we consciously deal with it, we can be sucked into viewing this situation for far worse than it actually is.
If you’re listening to this then you’re among the lucky, blessed and fortunate people who have access to wifi and warm home among countless other blessings. Let’s take a moment to remind ourselves that through these desperate times, we’re still fortunate and we are blessed!
So if you’re feeling hopeless and frustrated being at home, that’s understandable. But you also get to decide how you want to deal with these emotions. There’s always a better way to handle stressful emotions. Right now you may not be able to deal with your emotions how you normally would, so it’ll help to create a way that works for you in this particular time.
One thing you can do being at home, when you feel lower emotions such as anger, frustration, hopelessness, physically move your body. Get up and go to another room, not necessarily even to do something else, but the act of getting up itself will distract your thoughts.
In addition, here are two more things you can do to stay motivated.
First is to create a routine for yourself. Decide upon a time to wake up, exercise, have your meals, work, and sleep. Like clockwork. It may sound boring, but the key to staying motivated is to allow your mind minimum room and time to think negative thoughts. The best way to do this is to have a time to do things during the day. Having a routine for yourself is helpful not just for such times but also in life generally.
And second, is to start doing something you’ve always wanted to do. A painting, gardening, a pet project, learning a new language, anything you want. You can watch this week’s YouTube video we made especially for you on 7 steps you can take to start doing something you want. What better way to stay motivated than by doing something you really want to do!
So that’s my time for today. Don’t forget to like and share this episode. Also, if you haven’t already subscribed to Action-Ables do that right now.
I’ll be back next Thursday. Till then remember, ‘This will pass, so stay safe and stay motivated. Your Goals Matter and It’s up to You to Make It Happen!
